EXPERIMENT 

to determine the surface tension by Jaeger's method, with concentration of solution of common salt in water

THEORY

When a material is stretched in one direction it tends to get thinner in the other two directions

CONSTRUCTION

• Consisting of a cycle rubber tube of about one meter  long & dia 1” fitted with a small pointer at one lowest end with hook for hanging 500 gm slotted weight  and at upper end cork with a hole is fitted with clamp. One ½ meter long scale is attached to one of the rods where readings can be taken with the  pointer.
• The Rubber tube hangs with a clamp which is screwed on two M.S. Chromed Rods.
• The Rods are fitted on a heavy 2.5 kg base of size 12” x 6” arc shaped having two leveling screws.
• The ½ meter wooden scale is fitted on the base with metal clamp.
• Accessory Provided: a small 25 ml graduated Burette which is inserted in the cork fitted at the top of the rubber tube for taking reading of liquid( water ) filled in the rubber tube.
• Accessory Required at Extra:  5 x 500 gm (2.5 kg) slotted weights
