• This is first described in 1840.
• With it one can measure the amount of heat energy required to change the temperature of a solid body by a known amount

DESCRIPTION

• A wooden stand having a base 12 inch x 6 inch , having a partition of 12 inch height in the middle movable wooden plate.
• A wooden partition  separates a copper steam chamber double walled and a colorimeter. 

SPECIFICATION

• The steam chamber A double walled cylindrical Vessel. Steam can be passed in the space between the two walls through an inlet  and it can escape out through an outlet .It is kept on a wooden platform with a removable wooden disc  closing the bottom hole  the chamber.
• The upper part The vessel is closed by cork. The given solid may be suspended in the vessel by thread passing through the cork.
• Thermometer Also inserted into the vessel to record the temperature of the solid. Provided with the instrument
• Copper calorimeter: The outer calorimeter is further placed inside a wooden case and slides freely in two parallel grooves of a wooden frame under a shelf. The gap between the calorimeters and the wooden frame is lined with felt to minimize thermal losses. 
• Steam Jacket A double walled steam jacket is fitted on the upper side of the shelf through which hot substances can be dropped in the inner calorimeter. 
• A clamp for holding a thermometer and a wooden cover is attached to the box. 
• The wooden cover has a slot through which the thermometer and stirrer are inserted in to the calorimeter.  A double-walled, water-cooled jacket is fitted on the shelf below the steam jacket.
