To Find The Frequency Of Ac Mains By Sonometer.
APPARATUS USED
1. SONOMETER
A. box
45" x 4" x 4" with meter scales one meter long sub-divided in millimeters.
B. Wires
One brass(S.W. G. 26 ) and steel wire(SWG 24) attached to a fixed bridge and tensioned by fine adjustment pegs;
2. Electromagnet
(a copper wire of 36 SWG is wound (approx. 30 -50
turns) on a metal rod with a non inductive handle having
two terminals for connecting transformer.
3. Step down transformer of fixed voltage( 6 V) current 1 Amps is fitted on wooden board with two terminals, operates on 220V AC.
4. Iron stand with clamp and boss Head
5. Slotted weight 5 x 500 gm
Working:
When this electromagnet is supported over wires of a Sonometer, the wires starts vibrating by adjusting the tension and the bridge position maximum resonance can be obtained.
